In Marina Romea, just a stone’s throw from Ravenna, Cucina Retrò is the perfect place to celebrate your child’s birthday! From February to November, we welcome you with two spacious party rooms, designed to entertain both kids and adults in a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
We have chosen to focus exclusively on birthday celebrations, suspending our breakfast, lunch, and dinner service from 2025. However, our passion for great food and hospitality remains unchanged!
Our birthday party catering is rich and varied: fragrant pizzas and pinse, tasty savoury snacks and golden fried treats, mixed platters of cured meats and cheeses, traditional Romagnola piadinas, fresh fruit salads, sandwiches, tapas, and cicchetti.
We also offer vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free options, ensuring a delicious and inclusive experience for everyone. And for those who love the authentic flavours of the past, we prepare homemade cakes, perfect for a birthday brunch!
We look forward to welcoming you from February to November, exclusively by reservation, from 9:00 to 12:00 and 15:00 to 19:00, for a stress-free birthday celebration.
Our indoor and outdoor play areas will make the day even more special for the little ones. Plus, we offer free and convenient parking, so you can arrive hassle-free and enjoy the party to the fullest!

At Cucina Retrò, you can celebrate your child’s birthday in Ravenna at a family-friendly venue with restaurant experience dating back to 1958. We offer 200 square metres of play areas, with monitors allowing parents to keep an eye on their children while comfortably seated at the table.
The Romeo’s Village Playroom is a colourful indoor play area with a playground, ball pit, slide, soft carpets, and ride-on inflatable animals. There’s also a play area in the veranda, featuring a ball pit, a Smurf house, cubes, and inflatable animals. During the warmer months, children can have fun outside in the garden with a pirate ship and spring-mounted games.

It all started in 1956…
… when Marina Romea didn’t even exist yet.
Cucina Retrò, an osteria and café, was founded alongside Marina Romea in the 1950s, initially under the name “Ristorante La Pioppa”, thanks to the initiative of the baker from Ravenna, Ugo Gardini. In the following years, Rita and Giacomo Gardini carried on the business, leading it from the early 1970s to the early 2000s, before passing it on to Ugo’s grandchildren: Giovanni and Valentina. In 2019, Valentina left, and the restaurant has been managed by Giovanni together with Magda ever since.
But 2025 marks a turning point. The work becomes too demanding: too many hours, too many responsibilities, too many problems, too many events, too many costs, and fewer and fewer people want to seriously pursue this profession. The time to live is becoming more and more limited. Giovanni has decided to start renovating the hotel attached to the restaurant and suspend breakfast, lunch, and dinner services. Only birthday parties for children and the hotel activities remain. However, this is not a permanent closure: if one day the environmental and social conditions allow, the restaurant may reopen with the same passion as before.
However, Cucina Retrò will continue to preserve its essence: a place where time seems to stand still, just like in the old taverns, where friends laughed, stories were exchanged, and everyone felt at home. Even though the door will remain closed for a while, you can always find us at Hotel Columbia. Come visit us, even if it’s just for a greeting or a coffee. We’d be happy to see you again!
